Andy Stahr, PLA, LEED AP
With over a decade of award-winning experience as a design professional, both in the public and private sectors, and in the ecological restoration contracting industry, Andy Stahr offers a unique perspective to his clients on the successful implementation of natural areas into their projects. Andy provides field-tested insight as to what works - both on paper and in the field - when it comes to the creation or restoration of aesthetically positive natural areas and sustainable landscapes. During his time as a General Manager for one of the Midwest’s leading ecological restoration firms, projects Andy was responsible for designing, implementing and managing received 38 green industry awards. Andy serves as the ecological knowledge base for the firm setting the philosophies, ethics, techniques, and principals that have made ecology + vision, llc the industry leader in successful sustainable design and ecological consultation. He is also the developer of the exclusive Greenline® design review process, a service available to municipalities and other design professionals.
Andy offers a diverse background with varied experiences in landscape architecture and ecological restoration, including natural areas masterplanning, LEED xeriscape design, green roof planting design, construction plan and specification development, interpretive signage development, wetland delineation and mitigation planning, permitting, construction observation, and vegetation monitoring & reporting. Andy has also had key roles in a multitude of traditional design projects throughout his career, including park design, commercial/retail landscape design, campus masterplanning, downtown streetscape design, subdivision development, city park planning and development, and residential estate planning.
Cassi Saari serves as the lead ecologist on ecology + vision, llc’s projects. Cassi leads ecology's natural areas assessments, inventories, and monitoring/reporting efforts. She is responsible for plant inventories, floristic quality assessments, and the development of regulatory compliance reports. Her ability to identify native, non-native, and invasive plants is critical to these tasks. Her training and certifications include ICS-110, S-130/190 and Chicago Wilderness fire training, Certified Pesticide Operator, and ISA Certified Arborist qualifications.
With formal training in field ecology, conservation, and botany, in addition to field experience in ecological restoration and stewardship contracting, Cassi provides both scientific and practical insight when executing her current consulting responsibilities. This includes work with and for large, complex organizations, such as the Chicago Park District, Chicago Botanic Garden, and municipalities. Cassi provides technical knowledge and support to design staff when conducting historical research, creating species lists, and producing upland and wetland restoration plans.
As design associate for ecology, Jenna Whalen directs the brand development, concept, and outlook of each design project. Jenna works seamlessly with clients to provide prompt deliverables for ecological consultations, sustainable designs, and planning services. Through both computer generated and hand renderings she conveys plans and ideas to clients and consultants. Her background includes both small and large scale landscape architecture, graphic design, and ecological restoration, including master planning, natural areas design, site surveying, and problem solving. She is experienced in high-end residential design specializing in implementation of custom finishes that give each of her designs a unique character and complement existing architecture and surrounding environment. Jenna's digital design skill set includes AutoCAD, Adobe Suites, Google SketchUp, and GIS/GPS software. She also holds an executive committee position for the American Society of Landscape Architects and is active in the green industry.
